JPEG (also written JPG) is the most common image format for photographs. When you need to compress a JPEG to 200KB, our tool uses a binary search algorithm to find the highest possible JPEG quality that still produces a file at or below 200KB.
Many platforms impose a 200KB limit on JPEG uploads, including university admission portals, bank account opening forms, government ID verification systems, and job application platforms. A 200KB JPEG at typical dimensions (600×800 px) retains excellent visual quality for identity verification and profile pictures.
JPEG uses lossy compression, which means some image data is discarded to reduce file size. This makes JPEG ideal for photographs where a small quality reduction is acceptable. For logos, screenshots, or images with text, PNG may be more appropriate — though our tool can also compress PNG files to 200KB by converting them to JPEG.
All compression happens inside your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your JPEG files are never sent to any server, never stored, and never seen by anyone other than you.
